The visit to a naval base in Portsmouth marked the first time an international leader met with the new British leader since he took office at No. 10. The trip unfolded against a backdrop of escalating aerial attacks, with the Ukrainian air force reporting that Russian forces launched 147 long-range strike drones overnight, 123 of which were intercepted or jammed.
Advanced Electronic Warfare Support and Military Intel Sharing
During the Portsmouth meetings, the British prime minister announced that the UK would share the intellectual property behind its new Stone Cloak
electronic warfare system, enabling Ukraine to produce the technology at scale. The compact jammers, roughly the size of tablet computers, are designed to block the detection of any drones they equip.
The Ministry of Defence has already supplied thousands of the devices to Ukrainian forces. Downing Street confirmed that the technology will eventually be integrated into the UK’s next generation of long-range weapons, including Project Brakestop, a government initiative developing low-cost cruise missiles.

In response, Zelenskyy noted that bilateral ties were stronger than ever. The two leaders also reviewed more than 200 Ukrainian military personnel completing a three-week maritime exercise in the UK designed to strengthen warfighting capabilities and counter-mine measures in the Black Sea.
Simultaneous Strikes Across Multiple Fronts
While diplomatic talks proceeded in Britain, kinetic operations escalated across multiple regions. In Zaporizhzhia, regional administration head Ivan Fedorov reported that a series of overnight strikes killed one person and injured two others while damaging a high-rise residential building and several private homes. In the Nikopol district of the Dnipropetrovsk region, administration head Oleksandr Hanzha stated that strikes damaged a kindergarten and residential infrastructure, injuring a woman and a 6-year-old boy.
Cross-border activity also intensified on Russian soil. Moscow’s Defense Ministry reported that air defenses downed 276 Ukrainian drones overnight. In Rostov-on-Don, regional governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed that a Ukrainian drone strike on an apartment building killed a married couple and injured five others, while emergency officials in Belgorod reported that a drone attack injured 12 people, including two children.
Caspian Sea Engagement Draws Iranian Condemnation
The weekend’s military maneuvers extended far beyond the immediate front lines. Zelenskyy highlighted that recent Ukrainian long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea achieved very good results
by targeting vessels involved in transporting military cargo linked to Iran, as well as a warship.
The operation drew a sharp reaction from Tehran. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the strike on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian—which killed a sailor—describing it on X as a blatant U.N. Charter violation done at Israel’s behest to drag Europe into its war. Araghchi added that he had communicated to European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that the attack cannot go unanswered.
Ceasefire Strategy and Diplomatic Outlook
Returning to the diplomatic agenda in Portsmouth, the British government pledged to maintain coordinated pressure toward a settlement. The UK administration committed to supporting Ukraine in securing a full and unconditional ceasefire, emphasizing that future negotiations must feature both Ukrainian representation and a strong voice for Europe.
