The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) released provisional results for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), marking a critical milestone in Ghana’s education calendar. The council confirmed that 620,243 candidates, including 304,415 males and 315,828 females, sat for the exam across 20,789 schools, with 3,601 absent. The examination was conducted at 2,237 centers nationwide, including 136 candidates with visual impairment, 282 with hearing assessment needs, and 510 with other test accommodation needs. Another 2,722 results from 229 schools were withheld for further investigation, with outcomes expected by August 31, 2026.

WAEC officials emphasized that results were available on the council’s official website, www.waecgh.org, for candidates seeking online access. The provisional results were also dispatched to schools through district education directors. The council’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, stated, The results are also available on the Council’s official website at www.waecgh.org for candidates who so desire to access them online.

The council stated that 496 candidates had subject results canceled, 105 faced full result cancellations, 119 had subject results withheld, and 48 had entire results withheld. Cancellations and Withholdings
The council warned against fraudsters offering to “upgrade” results, stating, Candidates are to note that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated.
The council expressed its appreciation to stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Security Agencies, Heads of Schools, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners, and all who supported the examination’s conduct and result release.

The delayed results threatened to disrupt the CSSPS, which the Ministry of Education had planned to launch after July 31. Minister Iddrisu emphasized that placements would now depend on the finalization of results, stating, Candidates will select schools only after their results have been released, offering them the opportunity to make informed decisions based on their grades.
