That need was emphasized by Iraola during a press conference in Chicago at the start of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States. According to tracking data provider SkillCorner, Barcola also clocked a peak sprint velocity of 32.7km/h last season, ranking fourth across Europe’s top five leagues for physical activities above 15km/h. That explosive speed suits Liverpool’s transitional style under Iraola, who led Bournemouth playing relentless, end-to-end football before moving to Merseyside.
Paris Saint-Germain Succession Plans
The potential transfer hinges partly on developments in the French capital.
However, recent reports indicate that Paris Saint-Germain are confident they will sign Ajax winger Mika Godts, who operates in the same left-wing position. Securing Godts could clear the path for Barcola’s departure as the summer window enters its final month.
Timeline and Debut Prospects
Any prospective integration into the squad will face immediate timeline pressures. Liverpool begin the new Premier League season away to Newcastle United on August 23, but Barcola may lack the necessary training time to start that fixture.
The forward only departed the France squad after they finished fourth following a 6-4 loss to England in the World Cup third-place play-off on July 18, and he has not yet returned to club training. While supporters might see him make an early appearance if a deal is finalized quickly, a full debut for the Merseysiders could realistically wait until September.
