Monster Hunter Wilds Update 1.042 Adds Offline Quests and Prologue Saves

Capcom has released a new update for MP1st across all platforms, bringing version 1.042 to players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

Update 1.042 Adds Offline Quests and Prologue Save Transfers

A major quality-of-life inclusion in update 1.042 is the offline transition for 25 currently available event quests and Challenge Quests that previously required an online connection. This includes the limited-time event quest Just What the Doctor Ordered, which is now a permanent addition to the game. Other newly offline-accessible quests include Special Assignment: Slay Gogmazios, Freedom from Solitude, and The Dreamer’s Stairway. Additionally, the event quest list at the Quest Counter has been reorganized to display available quests at the top.

The file size for the update is approximately 3.5 GB on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while the Steam version is also approximately 3.5 GB, or approximately 5.5 GB total when including the High Resolution Texture Pack.

Bug Fixes and Balance Adjustments

The patch addresses multiple technical issues across bases and facilities, monsters, and general player systems. Among the fixes, Capcom resolved an issue where the Training Barrel Pop-up Camp gear option could be displayed twice. For monsters, the update fixed an unnatural appearance caused by unintended textures on Guardian Fulgur Anjanath’s head, and corrected an issue where attack effects from Arch-tempered Arkveld could be displaced by terrain interactions into unintended directions.

Player systems also received attention. The patch fixed a bug where players could no longer receive the effects of normal Synthetic Shield or Synergy after enhanced effects from another player’s Resonance II set bonus expired. For the Sword & Shield weapon class, an issue where traps could not be placed via a radial menu shortcut immediately after activating Focus Mode while the weapons were drawn has been resolved.

Miscellaneous system fixes include resolving audio issues where background music and sound effects occasionally failed to play correctly. Measures are also being taken to prevent stuttering when a frame rate cap is set alongside NVIDIA DLSS in graphics settings. Furthermore, an issue affecting the pendant Arkveld: Mark of Mastery under high system load—where its swaying animation would stop after drawing the weapon—has been addressed, alongside general voice line and text fixes.

Permanent Price Reduction and Store Restructuring

While the exact reduction amount has not been specified by the publisher, the base game previously retailed at $69.99, according to Polygon.

To streamline purchase options, several existing editions and passes—specifically the Deluxe Edition, Premium Deluxe Edition, and Cosmetic DLC Pass—were removed from sale. These are being replaced by new product offerings designed to bundle content more concisely.

New DLC Bundles and Edition Options

Capcom has introduced three new purchasing bundles to replace the outgoing editions:
