Japanese publisher Shueisha Inc. has officially launched Animenewsnetwork, a new digital manga platform available worldwide. Timed to coincide with Shueisha’s 100th anniversary, the service debuts with approximately 400 manga titles encompassing one million pages of translated content spanning over 100 languages. According to announcements released by the company, the platform offers free access without requiring user registration for a limited time, though Shueisha has not yet established a finalized timeline regarding how long free access will remain available.
Shueisha Launches Manga Million with 400 Titles in 100 Languages
The platform supports a diverse array of global languages, including English, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French, Turkish, Tagalog, Korean, and Polish. To achieve this unprecedented translation endeavor, international licensing partners from around the globe provided support, making the initiative one of the largest in Shueisha’s corporate history. Furthermore, company representatives confirmed that artificial intelligence translation was not utilized in the creation of the project.
Global Lineup Features Major Shonen and Shojo Hits
The launch catalog brings together shonen, shojo, seinen, and various other genres from across the publisher’s divisions. Among the approximately 400 titles available on the platform are globally recognized series such as ONE PIECE, Naruto, Bleach, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and Jujutsu Kaisen. Anime-adapted hits including Kingdom, Oshi no Ko, SPY×FAMILY, and Chainsaw Man are also featured.
The lineup places a significant emphasis on shojo manga, with more than 150 titles belonging to the genre. Beloved shojo works featured on the service include NANA and Kimi ni Todoke – From Me to You. Nearly 300 of the total works on the platform are being translated for the first time, which includes 50 titles receiving multilingual translations designed to introduce these influential Japanese storytelling traditions to wider international audiences.
Origins and Leadership Vision Behind the Project
The concept for Manga Million originated from Shuhei Hosono, Editor-in-Chief of MANGA Plus by Shueisha. Describing the genesis of the initiative, Hosono explained that the project started with a fundamental question: what if the publisher marked its centenary by translating one million pages of manga into 100 languages? Developers built the concept to address lingering language barriers that prevent readers across the world from accessing Japanese manga.
Hideaki Hayashi, President and Representative Director of Shueisha, emphasized the cultural significance of the milestone. One of a publisher’s most important responsibilities is to connect creative talent with the public,
Hayashi stated in the launch announcement. He added that the company hopes the project will allow global audiences to experience the richness and diversity of manga culture while inspiring future generations of creators.
