Irish boxer Lee Reeves remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition after suffering a knockout defeat to Gary Cully during their lightweight contest at the 3Arena in Dublin on Saturday night.
The 31-year-old Limerick southpaw was competing for the vacant BUI Celtic super-lightweight title on the undercard of the Pierce O’Leary versus Mark Chamberlain event. Reeves was knocked down twice in the 10th round, failing to beat the count after the second knockdown before being carried from the ring on a stretcher.
Promoter Frank Warren Issues Condition Update
Queensberry promoter Frank Warren provided an encouraging update regarding the fighter’s trajectory, noting that Lee Reeves is making progress following his admission to hospital last Saturday.
Frank Warren, Promoter and Founder of Queensberry Promotions, stated that his team had been in touch with Lee Reeves’ team and that he was making progress, adding that this was what they were hearing and thanking the Lord for that, while noting that with Lee it was all about time and that hopefully time could be a healer.
Warren stated that his primary hope is that Reeves will get back to his family as soon as possible. The promoter is also maintaining contact with the family of British boxer Raven Chapman, who underwent emergency surgery in Denmark for a brain bleed sustained during sparring, drawing a parallel between the two fighters’ recovery timelines.

In the wake of the bout, opponent Gary Cully offered public support and praise for Reeves’ performance in the ring, highlighting his journey to competing at a major level.
Gary Cully expressed that his prayers and thoughts were with Lee Reeves and that he hoped he was okay, noting that he had come into the fight as a big underdog after competing at a relatively lower level up until then, but that he had truly shown he could operate at a higher level, giving huge credit to him.
Public support for the injured fighter has grown significantly as his GoFundMe fundraiser reached €87,422.
