Roma and FC Porto in Advanced Talks Over €50M Deal for Rodrigo Mora

FC Porto and AS Roma are locked in advanced negotiations over 19-year-old midfielder Rodrigo Mora. The Serie A club has put forward multiple proposals, including a €25 million offer coupled with a 50 percent sell-on clause, as the player looks for regular minutes away from the Estádio do Dragão.

The Evolving Talks Between FC Porto and AS Roma

Negotiations between FC Porto and AS Roma are progressing as the Italian club pushes to secure the young Portugal under-21 international. The board led by André Villas-Boas previously rejected an opening bid of €25 million fixed for immediate acquisition, as reported by A Bola, with the club setting a minimum expectation around half of the player’s €70 million release clause, which runs until June 2030.

Despite the initial rejection, talks remain active. Italian market specialist Gianluca Di Marzio outlined that Roma has examined three distinct structural approaches to convince the Portuguese champions, aiming for a total valuation in the region of €50 million.

The Three Proposed Deal Structures

Roma’s strategy involves multiple financial pathways to bridge the gap with the Porto hierarchy. One option features a temporary transfer where the Giallorossi would pay a loan fee of €7 or €8 million accompanied by a purchase option of €42 or €43 million, though O Jogo notes alternative Italian reports citing a €5 million loan fee with a €45 million purchase option.

However, the formula finding the most traction involves a permanent transfer structured across installments and future rights. Under this setup, Roma would pay €25 million upfront while granting Porto a 50 percent sell-on clause for any subsequent resale. An additional payment of €25 million would follow in 2027.

Player Context and Playing Time at the Dragão

Rodrigo Mora finds himself with limited space in the squad following increased competition over the past year. The 19-year-old playmaker has alternated between the starting eleven and the bench, making a substitute appearance in the 75th minute during a recent 2-0 victory over Alverca where he delivered a cross that nearly resulted in a goal for Jan Bednarek.

Because of this reduced protagonism, the young midfielder is open to a departure to accumulate regular playing time. Sources close to the process indicate he is not forcing an exit or causing friction, but he awaits a successful conclusion to the talks.

Managerial Stance and Wider Market Interest

FC Porto manager Francesco Farioli addressed the swirling transfer speculation during a press conference at the Estádio do Dragão following the Alverca match, choosing to keep his cards close to his chest.

Francesco Farioli, FC Porto manager, stated that they had spoken at length about that topic the previous day and he did not have much more to add, noting that the week was going to be long and that at the next press conference they would have time for another update on the market.

Beyond the Italian interest, Turkish side Galatasaray also explored a move for the playmaker, looking primarily at a loan arrangement. Yet, with Porto standing firm on permanent terms and holding out for a substantial package, the path remains cleared primarily for the ongoing negotiations with Roma, handled alongside agent Jorge Mendes.
