Novorossiysk Naval Base Struck by Hundreds of Drones
Ukrainian forces targeted the coastal city of Novorossiysk with a combination of anti-ship missiles, jet-propelled aerial drones, and maritime drones during a large-scale overnight operation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the offensive as a unique action directed against the final major stronghold of the Russian fleet on the Black Sea, located more than 300 kilometers from the front line.
The strikes damaged anti-air defense systems, docks, and port infrastructure across the area in the Krasnodar region. Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported that several hundred drones hit targets in Novorossiysk, Anapa, Gelendzhik, and the Temryuk district. Andrei Kravchenko, the mayor of Novorossiysk, reported structural damage to four enterprises and over twenty residential buildings, with social media footage capturing blown-out windows and burned vehicles.

Beyond its military function as a naval base, Novorossiysk holds critical economic significance as an energy export hub. The nearby Grushovaya complex serves as one of the largest transshipment centers for petroleum and petroleum products in southern Russia.

These developments followed a wave of earlier drone strikes hitting sprawling warehouses operated by major online retailer Wildberries in Elektrostal near Moscow and the Tambov region. Those prior incidents resulted in nine deaths and more than 60 injuries. Zelensky stated that those logistics facilities were used to supply sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment, a justification reinforced by the Ukrainian Security and Cooperation Center, which identified the firm as a vital component
in the military supply chain.
Mobilization Warnings and Diplomatic Standstill
Amid the intensifying drone campaigns, Ukrainian intelligence assessments indicate that Russian leadership remains committed to sustaining the war despite slow battlefield advances. Zelensky warned that President Vladimir Putin is planning a rapid mobilization of several hundred thousand additional personnel before the end of the year.
This ongoing military escalation continues to outpace diplomatic efforts by the United States and international partners seeking a negotiated settlement.
