U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee condemned a settler siege on a Palestinian American family’s West Bank home as a horrific act of terror

A Besieged Family and Dwindling Supplies in Qusra
The siege began when Jewish settlers closed off the road leading to three houses in the West Bank village of Qusra, setting up a tent in the front yards and blocking residents from entering or leaving. According to local officials, settlers gathered around three houses belonging to a Palestinian American family, throwing stones, attempting to dismantle a nearby stone wall, and cutting off electricity and water supplies to the properties.
Loui Ridi, the owner of one of the targeted homes who lives in Ohio, described the desperate conditions inside the property as provisions ran dry. His 48-year-old brother and nephew had holed up in the house to defend it against the intrusion.
The United Nations reported that approximately 15 Palestinians, including two children, were trapped inside their homes in a state of terror, unable to attend to basic needs or access water and electricity. Qusay Abu Reeda, a Palestinian trapped in one of the dwellings, issued an appeal for assistance.
U.S. Condemnation and Military Intervention
The standoff drew a sharp rebuke from Washington. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee took to social media to denounce the blockade, calling the siege a horrific act of terror.
The intervention followed days of unrest that included viral video footage showing several Israeli men in military garb participating in a morning prayer inside the settlers’ tent.
In response to the standoff, Israel’s military declared the area a closed military zone. On Thursday morning, Qusai Abu Rida and his teenage son were evacuated by Israel’s military to another home in the vicinity, though they remained unable to leave the broader area.
Troop Reinforcements and Outpost Demolitions
The Israeli military announced the deployment of an additional infantry battalion and more soldiers on standby to impose order after initial efforts failed to clear the blockade. Overnight Thursday, troops dismantled two illegal outposts on the outskirts of Qusra and a nearby village, detaining one Israeli.
The military stated that the reinforced personnel were dispatched to carry out defensive missions and patrols in the area to maintain security. Despite the removal of outposts and tents, local mayor Abdel Azim Wadi reported that settlers remained stationed in other parts of the village.
Broader West Bank Tensions and Rising Violence
The Qusra siege unfolds against a backdrop of escalating violence across the occupied West Bank. Palestinians and Israeli opposition figures have accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hard-line government of turning a blind eye to settler attacks as clashes have surged over the past few years.
The region has seen a sharp increase in friction, compounding tensions tied to the broader war that began in October 2023.
