Restomod specialist Eccentrica has removed the roof from its re-engineered Lamborghini Diablo to create the V12 Roadster. Limited to 19 units with a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V12 producing 550 horsepower, the open-top supercar makes its physical public debut on August 14 at The Quail during Monterey Car Week.
The transformation takes one of the least discreet supercars of the 1990s and reconstructs it from the ground up. Developed in partnership with Milan-based design studio Borromeo De Silva, the project is engineered under the direction of former Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer Maurizio Reggiani, whose résumé includes the Murciélago, Gallardo, Aventador, and Huracán.
Re-Engineering the 1990s Icon Around an Open Cabin
Simply cutting the roof off a decades-old exotic car invites structural flex and ruined handling, but the engineering team approached the Roadster with a dedicated structural program. The original steel spaceframe receives carbon-fiber reinforcement to compensate for the missing roof. A dedicated aerodynamic study manages airflow around the open cabin, while a wider track anchors the exterior proportions.
Each build incorporates more than 3,500 bespoke components. Underneath the carbon-fiber and steel bodywork sits revised suspension geometry paired with a custom semi-active damper system, hydraulic steering, and modern Brembo brakes. The setup brings modern stopping power and compliance to a platform born well before software dictated vehicle dynamics.
A Naturally Aspirated V12 and Gated Manual Transmission
Behind the cabin sits a thoroughly re-engineered 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V12. Revisions to engine management, cooling, and airflow push output to 550 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm.

Power is channeled to the rear wheels through a six-speed gated manual transmission featuring three driver-selectable modes. The car achieves a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h), while maintaining a curb weight of 1,540 kg (3,395 pounds).
Bespoke Customization and the Collector Market
Production is strictly limited to 19 individually commissioned examples worldwide. Every vehicle is tailored one-on-one with its owner across three primary design themes: Sport, described as stripped for speed; Eccentric, its boldest and most attention-grabbing reading of the car; and Heritage, a tribute to the analogue soul of the original Diablo. The interior blends Connolly leather, Alcantara, anodized metal trim, and exposed carbon fiber.
While official pricing for the Roadster has not been published, the coupe on which it is based carried a starting price of €1.2 million, excluding the cost of a donor Lamborghini Diablo.
Where the Analogue Moment Meets Modern Craft
The timing of the release reflects a broader industry shift. As factory flagship V12 models adopt hybrid assistance, specialists are stepping in to supply purely mechanical alternatives. Every V12 Roadster begins life as an authentic Diablo that is systematically taken apart, reinforced, and rebuilt into a bespoke modern object. Whether that approach redefines what a modifier can achieve or tests the boundaries of automotive provenance is the wager facing each of the 19 buyers securing an allocation.
