Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on January 20, 2027, Disney and Lucasfilm announced during the D23 fan event. The upcoming season features returning stars Rosario Dawson, Hayden Christensen, and Eman Esfandi, alongside newcomer Rory McCann taking over the role of Baylan Skoll.
Fans received their first substantial look at the next chapter of the live-action Star Wars galaxy during the Disney Studio Showcase Panel at D23, where series creator and Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni, alongside core cast members, revealed the official release date and a new teaser trailer.
D23 Trailer Reveal Sets January 2027 Premiere for Ahsoka Season 2
The newly unveiled teaser trailer positions the upcoming run as a major escalation for the franchise, arriving three-and-a-half years after Ahsoka’s first episodes debuted in August 2023. The narrative continues the conflict against Grand Admiral Thrawn and his return to rally the Imperial remnant, sending the characters across a mysterious neighboring galaxy.
Series star Rosario Dawson described the scale of the upcoming episodes directly to the convention audience.
“This season is massive! The stakes are higher, the battles are bigger… and the threat of Thrawn looms large for Ahsoka, her crew and the entire galaxy.”

The timing of the January 20, 2027 debut on Disney Plus places the premiere just one month ahead of the theatrical re-release celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original film. Dave Filoni wrote the second season and directed the premiere and finale episodes, while Bryce Dallas Howard, Anders Engström, and Jennifer Getzinger each helmed two episodes.
Anakin Skywalker Returns and Casting Updates Shape the New Season
Hayden Christensen returns once more as Anakin Skywalker, appearing in training scenes with a young Ahsoka played by Ariana Greenblatt, as well as communicating with Dawson’s adult incarnation of the character.

“It’s such an honor to play Anakin Skywalker, Anakin continues to advise Ahsoka, challenge her and push her to answer the most important question in her life – are you or are you not a Jedi?”

The return of Anakin follows his appearance via the extradimensional World Between Worlds in the first season. Meanwhile, Eman Esfandi returns as Ezra Bridger, who has reunited with his Rebels family and fights alongside the New Republic against Imperial forces.
Production changes also affect the roster. Rory McCann takes over the role of Baylan Skoll following the passing of Ray Stevenson. The returning cast includes Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, David Tennant, and Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn.
Costume Previews and Lucasfilm Pavilion Displays at D23
Attendees visiting the Lucasfilm pavilion at D23 inspected props, armor, and wardrobe pieces from both Ahsoka Season 2 and The Mandalorian and Grogu. The exhibits showcased Rosario Dawson’s costume and Padawan looks for Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker’s wardrobe worn by Christensen, Natasha Liu Bordizzo’s apprentice costume for Sabine Wren, Sabine’s Loth-cat Murley, the Lothballs, and the droid Chopper.

Additional pieces included a uniform for Lars Mikkelsen’s Grand Admiral Thrawn and attire for the Great Mother Klothow. The display connected the television side with the big screen by featuring Din Djarin’s armor worn by Pedro Pascal, Grogu, and the Anzellans from Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, alongside a life-size adult Rotta the Hutt and a maquette of young Rotta.
