Yung Filly Faces Retrial on Three Sexual Penetration Charges

British rapper Yung Filly will face a retrial on three counts of sexual penetration without consent after a Perth jury failed to reach a majority verdict. The entertainer, whose legal name is Andres Barrientos, was convicted of two assault counts following a trial stemming from an Australian tour incident in 2024.

The Trial Outcome and Hung Charges in Perth

UK YouTuber and rapper Yung Filly faces a criminal retrial following a jury’s inability to reach a unanimous decision on several serious allegations. The legal proceedings center on accusations brought by a woman who was 20 years old at the time of the alleged incident during his 2024 Australian tour. After a trial spanning eight days in July, the jury acquitted the performer of three initial rape charges, two additional assault counts, and one charge of choking.

However, the panel could not reach verdicts on three remaining charges of sexual penetration without consent. State prosecutors quickly confirmed their intention to pursue a retrial on those specific hung-jury counts. The entertainer, whose legal name is Andres Barrientos, has remained in Western Australia since local authorities extradited him from Brisbane and charged him in October 2024.

Assault Convictions and Courtroom Testimony

While the jury deadlocked on the major sexual assault allegations, they returned guilty verdicts on two separate counts of assault. The convictions relate to biting the complainant’s face, neck, and breasts, leaving an open wound. The jury cleared him of one additional count of assault and one count of choking.

During last month’s trial in the District Court of Western Australia, the complainant testified that she met the performer after a club night at Bar 120 in Hillarys. She told the court that what began as consensual sexual activity inside a Perth CBD hotel room shifted into non-consensual acts. In his testimony, Mr Barrientos maintained his innocence regarding the disputed acts, stating he did not hit the complainant or hold her by the throat, and claiming that the sexual encounters were entirely consensual despite admitting to giving love bites.

Prosecution Plans and Upcoming Court Dates

Legal proceedings moved forward on Friday as prosecutors prepared the next procedural steps for the District Court of Western Australia. State prosecutor Danielle Clarke confirmed to the court that the complainant remains prepared to testify again during the upcoming proceedings. Neither the defense nor the prosecution has yet indicated whether the retrial will be decided by a judge or a new jury.

The case is scheduled to return to court next week to address bail conditions. Barrientos is currently on bail and declined to speak with media personnel gathered outside the courthouse. Sentencing for the two assault convictions will be deferred until after the conclusion of the upcoming retrial.

Next Legal Deadlines in Western Australia

The legal timeline for the high-profile case includes two distinct milestones in the coming weeks. The District Court of Western Australia has scheduled a hearing on August 27 specifically to vary the defendant’s bail conditions. Following that administrative appearance, a formal mention to list the matter for retrial will take place in the same court on September 25.
