President Donald Trump’s 20-year-old son, Barron Trump, is maintaining a highly reclusive lifestyle and keeping out of the public eye amid rising security threats, including an Iranian video targeting him with a $10 million bounty. The Secret Service confirmed it is aware of the threat.
America’s first son is navigating his second year of university while operating inside a strict security bubble. Facing an escalating climate of political violence that includes three assassination attempts against his father since July 2024, Barron has deliberately chosen to minimize public exposure. People in the family’s orbit note that he avoids lingering in open spaces, moving rapidly from public areas into private retreats across his parents’ residences.

Assassination Attempts and Iranian State Television Threats
Donald Trump has survived at least three assassination attempts since July 2024, including being shot and wounded at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, being stalked at his Florida golf course in September 2024, and attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner attacked by a gunman this past April. Iran’s hardliners have targeted both the President and First Lady Melania Trump, who attended the April dinner alongside her husband.
Security fears intensified sharply when Iranian state television broadcast a segment on Channel 3 from an IRGC-affiliated media outlet. The broadcast, titled Where to kill Barron Trump,
visually depicted his movements, claimed he was fully monitored, and announced a $10 million reward. The clip also alleged that a girl had once surpassed the Secret Service and sat next to Barron in a private meeting. A previous Iranian state television video had targeted the US first lady before concluding with a direct warning aimed at the first son: This is just the beginning. Barron Trump, wait for us.
The United States Secret Service responded to the broadcast by confirming its awareness of the footage.
“The US Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring told CNN.
The Secret Service noted that it does not discuss protective intelligence matters due to operational security concerns. Meanwhile, Iran’s Security Chief Mohsen Rezaei claimed in an interview broadcast by Lebanon’s Al Manar TV that a report about a potential plot to assassinate Trump’s youngest son is a lie.
First Lady Melania Trump Requests Privacy for Barron
First Lady Melania Trump has maintained a protective stance over her son. The Office of the First Lady requested privacy for Barron, telling The Post that in light of recent threats
the East Wing asked that any details concerning his private life be excluded from all coverage.
Her protective approach was also evident in early 2022 when Donald Trump was between White House terms. Recognizing that Barron was set to lose his Secret Service detail when he turned 16 that March, Melania stepped in by ordering her office to contact the White House and request then-President Joe Biden authorise an extension. A former Biden administration official confirmed the request was promptly granted.
Reflecting on her son’s shyness in her self-titled documentary chronicling the run-up to President Trump’s second inauguration in January 2025, Melania told Secret Service agents while discussing the possibility of the first family walking down Pennsylvania Avenue, I know Barron won’t go out. And I respect that.
The inaugural parade was ultimately moved indoors due to cold weather.
Barron was also deeply affected by the September 2025 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, with whom he had become close. Authors Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan reported in their book Regime Change that Barron broke the news directly to his father, stating, This is what happens when you go out there.
Therapist Dr. Azita Sayan, who has not treated Barron but deals with adolescent trauma, noted that the constant security heightens his awareness of threats. Barron is probably a lot more aware and a lot more astute, and a lot more conscientious in terms of the real dangers,
Dr. Sayan told The Post, adding, But reclusive doesn’t mean traumatised. He’s protecting himself and making his friendships and his decisions privately rather than to have them be on display, which I think is developmentally healthy.
Chelsea Clinton, who lived in the White House from age 12 until leaving for Stanford University in 1997, recently shared on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show that she similarly chose to stay indoors as often as possible for privacy. If we were in the White House,
Ms. Clinton noted, Secret Service didn’t need to be on the same floor as we were studying or talking about boys or whatever we were doing.
Across his parents’ residences, Barron maintains dedicated personal spaces, including a suite at Mar-a-Lago, a floor at Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan, and a White House room featuring custom furniture built by the on-site carpentry shop to fit his 6’9″ frame.
