A new GitHub utility called DLSS Swapper automates installing NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 Neural Rendering into older or unsupported video games. Developed by rakanki911, the app bridges the gap for RTX 20-series and 30-series GPUs while relying on leaked files first uncovered in early access builds of NBA 2K27.

The Leaked Runtime That Sparked a Community Modding Wave

The path to bringing neural rendering to legacy hardware started inside pre-launch files. An early access build of NBA 2K27 shipped with a never-before-seen file named nvngx_dlssnr.dll. Published on GitHub by developer rakanki911, DLSS Swapper automates installing DLSS 5’s Neural Rendering into games, including ones that never officially got support for it. Users can drag and drop a game into the app, or let it scan the drive for installed titles on its own.

For games that already ship with DLSS, the swap is simple. For everything else, the tool relies on DLSS5-Feeder, a community mod that emulates the DLSS calls required to trigger Neural Rendering, paired with ReShade for the depth buffer and motion data that DLSS needs to work. That combination reportedly runs across titles from DirectX 9 through DirectX 12, and even on a handful of emulators like PCSX2, Dolphin, and Xenia.

Most notably, the app also extends DLSS 5 support to RTX 20-series and RTX 30-series graphics cards, sidestepping NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series requirement. Given how far these mods have already spread, this tool is likely to become the most popular way for people to try Neural Rendering, at least until NVIDIA offers something similar itself.

Decoding Neural Rendering: What the Tech Actually Does

NVIDIA announced DLSS 5 in March as a real-time Neural Rendering model, with SIGGRAPH 2026 being where NVIDIA provided more details and explained that DLSS 5 takes color output and motion vectors for each frame and feeds them into a real-time neural rendering model. That model understands the different aspects of the frame and its contents, such as skin, hair, fabric, lighting direction, and material properties, and then uses that to produce an improved image. DLSS 5 Neural Rendering uses a specialized AI model to apply generative post-processing to video games in real time. The specific model that NVIDIA has trained and deployed comes in three variants at this time, but all are designed to produce better photorealism in games. Users don’t pick which model to use in-game, rather the developer selects its preferred version along with many other configurable controls for the technology.
