Guerrilla Games is reportedly reviving its classic first-person shooter franchise with an external studio, working on a new Killzone project in the very early stages of production. The reboot or remake is widely linked to Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly, which signed an agreement with PlayStation in March 2025.
Sony Revives a Shooter Franchise
Old-school PlayStation gamers hold fond memories of Guerrilla Games’ Killzone series. Once positioned as Sony PlayStation’s premier first-person shooter franchise and famously dubbed the Halo Killer
in an infamous E3 trailer, the series was eventually sidelined in favor of the Horizon franchise. Now, it seems Sony has plans to breathe new life into the property.
A new Killzone project is in the very early stages of production, according to reporting from the gaming outlet. While an official announcement is not expected anytime soon, the project confirms that the franchise is back on Guerrilla’s plate. The last entry in the series was Killzone: Shadow Fall, which released for the PS4 back in 2013. That title enjoyed generally positive reviews and a thriving multiplayer community whose servers only shut down in August 2022.
People Can Fly Tied to Development
Guerrilla Games is reportedly collaborating with an external, third-party studio to handle the workload. While initial reports did not specify which studio was partnering with the developer, strong indications point toward Poland-based People Can Fly.

Remake Versus Full Reboot Debate
Details regarding the exact scope of the project remain fluid. While whispers have occasionally suggested the studio might pursue a full reboot, the most consistent intelligence points toward a visual uplift of an older title. Common sense suggests that a remake would target the original 2004 PlayStation 2 entry, though the external studio has not officially named the specific game receiving updates.

Following reports that Hunters Gathering faced negative feedback and was rebooted, fixing that title became the studio’s priority. Consequently, some of the team was allocated to it, leaving part of Guerrilla to pivot back to Killzone once work on the retooled project concludes.
