Rohit Shetty has officially scheduled the theatrical release of Golmaal 5 for January 8, 2027. Announced via social media on September 19, 2026, the upcoming comedy-drama reunites Ajay Devgn alongside returning franchise favourites and new addition Akshay Kumar for the fifth instalment.
While fans anticipated a quicker return following previous sequels, the fifth instalment arrives nearly a decade after the franchise’s fourth outing. The production marks a major milestone for the filmmaker, landing two decades after the release of the first film in the series. The announcement comes nine years after Golmaal Again, the fourth instalment in the series.
The Return of the Original Gang and New Additions
The upcoming film brings back several familiar faces who helped build the comedy franchise. Ajay Devgn will return as Gopal, leading an ensemble cast that includes Arshad Warsi reprising his role as Madhav, Tusshar Kapoor back as Lucky, and Kunal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade returning. The reunion is expected to bring back the franchise’s most loved dynamics, including the running rivalry between Ajay Devgn and Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor’s signature “Ae ah oh” gag, and the new twist would the chemistry of the trio – Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu and Sharman Joshi.
A notable highlight for longtime enthusiasts is the comeback of Sharman Joshi, who last featured in the franchise all the way back in 2006 during the release of the inaugural movie, Golmaal: Fun Unlimited. Joshi did not participate in any of the subsequent sequels.
Meanwhile, the production expands its core roster with a major new face. Akshay Kumar joins the franchise for the first time, though specific details regarding his character remain under wraps amid speculation about him playing an antagonist. Rohit Shetty had announced Akshay’s addition on the actor’s birthday in March 2026. Details about the rest of the cast, including who will play the leading lady or ladies, are currently being kept under wraps.
Production Timeline and Filming Schedules
Work on the project has moved swiftly through key production phases over the past year. Production on Golmaal 5 got underway in 2026, with the first schedule taking place in Ooty in April. The makers marked the beginning of filming with a video featuring the cast arriving in the hill station, giving fans a glimpse of the reunited ensemble. Production milestones followed steadily, with reports indicating by August that the dialogue portions of the film had been completed, with two songs, including the title track, remaining to be filmed.

Two Decades of Box Office Success
The release of the fifth film marks 20 years since the inception of one of the most successful Hindi comedy series in the industry. The first film was released in 2006, and the makers followed it with other instalments in 2008, 2010 and 2017. They all followed stories of how Ajay and his gang end up in hilarious situations and make their way out of them. The fourth part, Golmaal Again came out in 2017 and was repackaged as a horror-comedy also featuring Parineeti Chopra and Tabu in the lead, doing well at the box office that year.
Reflecting on the milestone earlier, Rohit Shetty shared a long note addressing the journey of the series and the audience response over two decades.
