In response to the IAEA Director General’s visit to Israel: Iran poses an acute threat to the superpowers

Iran responded today (Friday) to the surprise visit of the IAEA Director General to Israel with a sharp threat to the member powers of the International Atomic Energy Agency, claiming that this is an action that is contrary to the agency’s neutrality. In addition, Tehran has vowed to show an “immediate response” to any move against it by the United States and European countries in the IAEA.

“Any political action by the United States and the powers in the IAEA will be met with a proportionate, effective and immediate response from Iran,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amirbadulian was quoted as saying by Iranian state media. Amirabadulian also said that the visit of the head of the IAEA to Israel, Iran’s sworn enemy, contradicts the agency’s impartiality.

He went on to say that Iran would respond “strongly and appropriately” to any “constructive action” at the forthcoming IAEA Board of Governors meeting, in the shadow of reports that the US, France, Britain and Germany were pushing for a decision at the next IAEA meeting to reprimand Iran for Failure to answer long questions about uranium traces at undeclared sites.
