One of the companies that is part of Roskosmos has begun developing a medical complex for radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer patients. The first samples will be ready in two years.

It will be an upgraded version of the Betatron, a particle accelerator. The main task is to make the device mobile and not very heavy. It is important that it can be used in operating rooms.

The medical betatron will have a power of 12 MeV and can be smoothly regulated as needed. The first two samples should be ready in two years. They will be sent to clinical trials, during which changes can be made to the complex.

The development is carried out jointly with the Tomsk Polytechnic University and the Tomsk National Research Medical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. One more company may join the project in the future.
