The Portuguese painter Paula Rego, one of the most recognized artists in the world, died at dawn today at her residence in London at the age of 87, reported the Luis I Foundation, an organization linked to the deceased painter.

Paula Rego:

With his death, “Portuguese culture loses one of its most important and irreverent creators,” the Foundation said.

Born in Lisbon, Paula Rego was educated in London, where she has lived for half a century.

Precisely until August 21, the Picasso Museum in Malaga exhibits his work, with very hard paintings, with a far-reaching emotional impact and that shows his influence on contemporary art.

The Malaga exhibition brings together more than 80 works, representative of all the formal periods of the artist, in a creative range that covers from 1950 to 2009.

Rego’s work is little known in our country despite the anthology offered by the Reina Sofía Museum in 2007.
