Chennai: With the AIADMK’s single leadership issue at its peak, party coordinator O. Panneerselvam and co – coordinator Edappadi Palanisamy are still in consultation with their supporters for the 8th day today.
AIADMK general body meeting is scheduled to be held on the 23rd at Srivaru Mandapam in Vanakaram, Chennai. A consultative meeting attended by district secretaries and union executives was held at the party headquarters on the 14th. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, AIADMK ex-minister Jayakumar said that most district secretaries had registered the view that the party needed a single leader and that the party would decide who would be the only leader.
Following this, the issue of single leadership in the AIADMK came up for discussion. OBS and EPS supporters alternately pasted posters. Also, senior party executives met and consulted with the two separately. OBS and EPS also consulted separately with their supporters.
In this context, a letter was sent on behalf of O. Panneerselvam and Vaithilingam to the co-coordinator Edappadi Palanisamy requesting to postpone the general body meeting to be held on the 23rd. KP Munuswamy, the party’s deputy co-ordinator, told reporters yesterday that they did not know anything about the letter and that the letter had not arrived.
Day 8 Consultation: With just two days to go before the General Assembly, OBS and EPS held a consultation with their supporters on the 8th at their homes on Greenways Road, Chennai. AIADMK senior member Thambidurai, former minister RP Udayakumar and many others held consultations at Edappadi Palanisamy’s residence and former minister Vaithilingam and MLA Manoj Pandian at O. Panneerselvam’s residence.
Reporters met with Deputy Coordinator Vaithilingam at the OPS House. Responding to a query regarding KP Munuswamy’s statement that the letter seeking adjournment of the General Committee had not been received, he said, “That means they are not yet in touch with the General Committee. The letter has been handed over to General Administrator Mahalingam and signed. Let’s take care of what he says, “he said.
