Moscow sports schools refuse to enroll children whose parents do not agree to the collection of their personal data, Kommersant reports with reference to the Moscow Parents organization.

The publication got acquainted with the correspondence of the “Parents of Moscow” organization, which was conducted with the Moscow Sports Department, the Moscow City Duma and the Prosecutor’s Office. In the letters sent in the summer, it is said that when enrolling in sports schools, parents are obliged to sign a consent to the collection and processing of personal data of children, as well as their photo and video filming. If the parents refuse to sign the consent, the school may refuse to enroll the child, according to the appeal.

Responding to this appeal, in which activists asked to intervene in the enrollment process of children, the Moscow Sports Department stated that “consent to the processing of personal data is an integral part of the contract for the provision of sports training services. This is provided for by Part 4 of Art. 421 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation “.

As Vera Troshina, the coordinator of the legal service of the “Moscow Parents” movement, explained, parents face the need to provide personal data of their children at the stage of their enrollment in kindergarten and school. According to Troshina, the parents were informed that from September 1, all cameras in sports schools will be connected to a face recognition system or motion sensors.

As the newspaper notes, cameras are now installed in all Moscow schools. According to the government procurement portal, at the end of August, the Moscow Department of Information Technology (DIT) announced a tender for the installation of more than 13,000 video cameras in Moscow schools for 2.8 billion rubles. To improve the safety of students, DIT planned to connect cameras in schools to face recognition systems by 2022, the publication adds.

At the same time, Vice-Mayor Anastasia Rakova stressed that it was not planned to introduce any large-scale face recognition system when entering school. “There can be experiments in some school buildings,” she noted.
