Nutritionist, nutritionist, psychologist, author of the book and methodology “Eat. Read. Lose Weight!” Zoya Bogdanova, in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, spoke about the results of a study, according to which it became known that almost a quarter of Russians have a genetic mutation that provokes a passion for sweets.

Earlier, the Genotek Medical Genetic Center conducted a study in which 59,000 Russians aged 18 to 65 participated, and found out that 23% of them have a genetic mutation that affects the formation of a strong craving for sweets. Experts believe that the love of foods with a high sugar content is justified by mutations in the GLUT2 gene. In such people, the body will be less susceptible to glucose, and the person realizes that he was fed up with sweets later than people deprived of such mutations.

Bogdanova noted that it is possible to draw such conclusions if a clinical study has been conducted for many years.

In her opinion, it would be nice if the study would be conducted for 10 years and on different age groups. In this case, serious conclusions can be drawn. However, then the question arises: what to do with all the sweets, a huge amount of carbohydrates that are on our shelves, and what provoked this mutation.

Bogdanova added that many Russians eat improperly, their diet contains a large amount of fast carbohydrates, which lead to weight gain and the appearance of cardiovascular diseases.
