The American news site Yahoo News announced today (Wednesday) that there is a possibility that Iran will try to assassinate former senior US officials, or those still in office, in retaliation for the assassination of the Revolutionary Guards commander, Qassem Suleimani, in 2020.

The information was quoted by the news site from an intelligence report by the National Center for the War on Terror in the United States, which estimates that the level of threat of an Iranian attack on American officials is still high, in light of US President Joe Biden’s visit to the Middle East.

“The Iranian regime is waging a campaign on many levels, including threats of lethal action, legal maneuvering in the international arena, and the issuance of Iranian arrest warrants and sanctions against selected American officials. “For those whom Iran considers responsible for the killings,” the report said.

It further noted that “Iran is likely to regard the assassination or persecution of U.S. officials that it considers equal in rank to Suleimani, or those responsible for his death, as successful retaliatory actions.”
