In this important report which reveals the prevailing gender inequality in the world, India has been ranked very low compared to its neighbours. India is behind Bangladesh, Nepal (96), Sri Lanka (110), Maldives (117) and Bhutan (126).

This report is prepared based on four main points. Defines gender equality in terms of women’s economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment. Based on that it gives marks from 0 to 100. These scores represent the distance towards equilibrium. Among these, India ranks 146 in health and survival, 143 in economic participation and opportunity, 107 in education and 48 in political empowerment. 135th in the overall index.
