Thodupuzha ∙ Mullaperiyar Dam may be opened on Friday morning. The Tamil Nadu government has informed the Idukki district administration that the water will be released through the spillway from 10 am and will update the amount of water released. The Collector warned the public to be cautious in case of Mullaperiyar water being released through the spillway.
The water level in the dam had crossed 136 feet. Current water flow is 6592 cusecs. If this continues, it will touch the rule curve level of 137.5 feet on Friday. The maximum permissible water level for storage is 137.1 feet as per the rule curve. After the water level reached 136 feet, Tamil Nadu issued a first phase warning. Tamil Nadu is in a situation where it cannot carry extra water. Vaiga dam is full and has been opened.
