Leprosy Foundation is looking for collectors

by time news

BARENDRECHT – From Monday 15 to Saturday 20 August, collection will take place in Barendrecht for the Leprosy Foundation. A new feature is that cash can be given as well as via a QR code.

Many leprosy patients were extra affected by corona, because they came to the back of the queue for medical care and did not receive their necessary medicines on time. They cannot make it themselves, because they have to live in quarantine all their lives. Leprosy patients are often rejected by their family and fellow villagers and have to build a new life in isolation in leprosy villages.

Peter Euser, the Barendrecht ambassador of the Leprosy Foundation, is still looking for new collectors who want to help one or more evenings next week. If you would like to help with collecting (if you are 15 or older), you can register via [email protected] or call 0180-626737.

Leprastichting

The Leprosy Foundation is committed to the millions of leprosy patients, who mainly live in poverty areas in Asia, Africa and South America.

Leprosy is caused by a bacterium that attacks the nerves and causes deformities. Because you don’t feel anything anymore, you don’t notice that you are getting wounds. This can cause serious infections. So much so that feet or legs have to be amputated. Fortunately, the deformities, amputations and blindness caused by leprosy are preventable. And that for only an average of 50 euros per leprosy patient.

In concrete terms, this means that a collector with a few hours of collecting can make a difference for at least one leprosy patient, who, instead of being mutilated and amputated, now continues to walk with numb spots, but due to the early detection, treatment and good aftercare, now with all limbs and healthy eyes can go on through life.

If you do not meet a collector, you can also transfer money to the giro account NL84 INGB 0000 050 500 of the Leprosy Foundation, stating “collecte Barendrecht” or SMS ‘LEPRA’ to 4333 and donate 2 euros.
