The security forces broke into the Kazan crisis center “Mother’s House” and took two girls who turned there for help. The incident took place on Monday evening, October 18th.

Aliya Bainazarova, head of the Good Deeds charity foundation, told Novaya Gazeta that the girls came to Kazan from Dagestan, where they were forced to marry. According to her, the father of one of the girls is an Islamic preacher. One of the young women has a two-year-old daughter.

“At four o’clock in the morning, girls from Dagestan came to us. They were forced to flee their hometown. They had an intention to start a new life,” Baynazarova said.

According to her, the policemen, without introducing themselves, burst into the crisis shelter “as if they were at home,” “took the girls as things,” and took them to the police. The Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Tatarstan told Novaya Gazeta that it was the first time they heard about it.

According to human rights activist Svetlana Anokhina, the girls did not get in touch for about an hour, after which they contacted her, saying that they were supposedly doing well and asking “not to make a fuss.”

“I do not believe for a second that these statements are voluntary,” Anokhina emphasized. She believes that the women will soon be taken to Dagestan.
