Kochi: A crowd in the last coach of the metro train that left Aluva for Petta at 2.30 pm. Some of those who came near to know the matter ran shyly at first, others looked curiously, some looked face to face, and then gradually became part of the crowd. For the first time, Kochi Metro witnessed a live discussion on a running metro train. As part of the ‘Cup of Life’ project implemented by Hibi Eden MP in collaboration with Muthoot Finance, an open discussion was organized inside the running metro train on the topic of ‘Menstruation and Sixty’.

Many people shared their experiences of having to lie to many people that they had a headache instead of a stomach ache during their periods, the problems they felt due to not having a pad, and the pain and fatigue they had to endure without being able to tell anyone outside. Journalist Sreeja Shyam, the moderator, said that times have changed a lot and society is ready to openly discuss menstruation and physical problems affecting women, and the achievement of starting the Cup of Life project has been achieved.

Hibi Eden MP said that although the purpose of the Cup of Life project is not perfect, he is happy and proud to have met the goal. Muthoot Finance Deputy Managing Director George M. George said that the Cup of Life project is one of the best CSR projects that Muthoot Finance is a part of.

The experiences, knowledge and mental conflicts from menstruation to menopause were discussed from 20-year-old women to 60-year-old women. Kochi Metro has been used as a platform to discuss the mental and physical challenges faced by women in the busy life of Kochi city and to open social issues including waste management.

St. Teresa’s College Dean Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan, Rotary Club of Kochi Milan Representative Shahina Nisar, WICCI Representative Shana Susan, Dentist Ashna Hanish, Tania Joy, Young Entrepreneur Naureen Aisha, IMA Cochin President Dr. Maria Varghese, Dr. Junaid Rahman, Dr. Akhil Xavier Manuel participated in the discussion. The Cup of Life project is being implemented in partnership with Ernakulam District Administration and IMA Kochi branch. One and a half crore rupees have been allocated for the project from the Muthoot Finance CSR Fund.
