Ahmedabad: Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot said that India will face the same fate as Pakistan if BJP tries to make it a Hindu nation. Gehlot is on a two-day visit to Gujarat where assembly elections will be held in December. The visit is to assess the election preparations and meet with the leaders.
“BJP has jailed many people across the country, including activists and journalists. They are fascists who win elections only in the name of religion. BJP has no ideology, policy or governance model of its own. If the BJP tries to turn the country into a Hindu nation, India will face the same fate as Pakistan,” said Gehlot.
Politics based on religion is the easiest. Even Adolf Hitler got involved. Gehlot also accused BJP of misleading people in the name of ‘Gujarat model’.
“The Congress was very close to winning the 2017 assembly elections. But unfortunately PM Modi behaved like a Bollywood actor in the campaign and we lost. In order to garner sympathy, Modi twisted Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s statement during the campaign and said that Aiyar had called him a ‘low person’,” he clarified.
In the 2017 elections, the BJP won 99 seats in the 182-member assembly. Congress won 77 seats.
