At the current level of production, coal reserves in Russia will last for 350 years, Sergei Mochalnikov, Director of the Department for Foreign Economic Cooperation and Development of Fuel Markets of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, said in an interview with RIA Novosti. According to him, this year the growth in coal production will be 6% by 2020.

“Coal reserves in Russia exceed 400 billion tons. This will be enough for us for a very long period. At the current level of production, it will last for about 350 years, ”said Mr. Mochalnikov.

He added that now the growth in coal production is about 9% compared to last year, but at the end of the year the growth will be slightly lower. “If current trends continue, production growth in 2021 relative to 2020 is expected to be about 6%, and in 2022 by 2021 – more than 1.5%,” he said.

According to Sergei Mochalnikov, this year the export of coal may exceed 220 million tons, including about 129 million tons will go to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. According to forecasts of the Ministry of Energy, in 2021 coal supplies to the European market will remain at the level of last year – about 48 million tons.
