Croatian tennis star Coric defeats Sitsipas to clinch maiden Masters 1000 Crown

The Cincinnati Open is an international tennis tournament held in the United States. In the men’s singles final, Croatian player Borna Goric, who was ranked 152nd in the world, beat 7th ranked Chitsipass (Greece) 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 to win the title. This is the first time 25-year-old Borna Coric has won the ATP Masters title with 1,000 ranking points. This made Borna Coric the first player to win an ATP Masters title from the lowest ranking (152nd). The previous record was held by 143rd ranked Spaniard Roberto Carretero in 1996 when he won the ATP Masters title at the Hamburg Open. Borna Gorich has climbed 123 places to 29th in the rankings by winning the title of champion.

World No. 35 Caroline Garcia of France defeated two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) 6-2, 6-4 in the women’s singles final to clinch the title. Caroline Garcia entered the main round after playing in the qualifiers for the WTA with 1,000 ranking points. She became the first qualifier to win the title.
