Dubai: Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has opined that Sanju Samson should have been included in the Indian team for the Asia Cup series instead of KL Rahul. He said this while the India-Pakistan teams are going to play multiple tests the day after tomorrow.
The Asia Cup series which was to be held in Sri Lanka has been shifted to the United Arab Emirates due to the extraordinary situation prevailing there. The series runs from tomorrow to September 11. India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are the six teams participating in the ongoing Asia Cup series. The series will be played in T20 cricket format.
India, Pakistan and Hong Kong are the three teams playing in Group ‘A’ round of the tournament. In this case, Kaneria said that the young player Sanju Samson should be playing instead of KL Rahul in the Indian team.
“KL Rahul has just recovered from injury. But he played in the Zimbabwe series by then. He also got a place in the team for the Asia Cup before that. This is a hasty decision. Sanju Samson is playing well in the Indian team. He has been performing brilliantly. However, he does not get a chance to be a regular in the team. He alternates in and out of the team. Coach Rahul Dravid is the reason why he is getting a chance in recent times. He knows exactly what Samson is capable of.
If you ask me, Sanju Samson should have played in Asia Cup where KL Rahul is. That would have been perfect. It might have given Rahul some time to focus on the T20 World Cup. With that he will be back in form. The media may question if he doesn’t make the team. So it might have happened. But Sanju should have played in the Asia Cup,” he said.
