Chennai: Vinayagar Chaturthi is being celebrated across the country today (August 31). In Chennai, more than 10,000 policemen have been deployed for security.
Due to the spread of Corona, in 2021, in connection with the Vinayagar Chaturthi festival, worshiping idols in public places has been banned. Similarly, taking Ganesha idols in procession and dissolving them in water bodies is also not allowed. Due to this, Vinayagar Chaturthi festivals are not held. Individuals were only allowed to worship Ganesha idols in their houses and to dissolve them in nearby water bodies.
Two years later, the barriers are now lifted. Hindu organizations have been allowed to install idols in places already permitted to them, take them in procession and dissolve them in water bodies. A special pooja was conducted in the temples on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi. For Vinayagar Chaturthi in Chennai, more than 10 thousand policemen have been deployed for security. 1 lakh idols of Lord Ganesha will be consecrated on behalf of the Hindu Front across Tamil Nadu. 5 thousand 501 idols are to be placed in Chennai alone.
The Visarjana festival where the idols of Lord Ganesha to be consecrated are dissolved in the water bodies will be held till the 4th according to their wishes. Vinayagar Chaturthi Visarjana festival is going to be held on 4th in Chennai by Hindu front. Chennai Police has ordered that after worshiping Ganesha idols, they should be melted only on four beaches namely Palavakkam, Pattinambakkam, Kasimedu and Tiruvottiyur.
