Kidney stones: how to prevent them and avoid recurrences?

Kidney stones are pebbles of varying size produced by the kidneys that form in the kidneys from certain components of urine. They can cause severe pain in the kidneys, but also in the entire urinary tract (bladder, urethra or ureters).

More and more people, especially women, are suffering from kidney stones. They are usually eliminated through the urine, but sometimes they migrate to the urinary tract, causing sudden, extremely sharp pains called “renal colic”. It’s not the stone itself that hurts, but the dilation of the urinary tract.
