Malaysian-born Lee was on his way to Sydney, Australia to study mechanical engineering when a bank mistake changed his life. Westpac Bank mistakenly offered an unlimited overdraft facility to Christine’s account.

Lee’s lawyer argued in court that even if Lee had acted dishonestly, he could not be deemed to have committed fraud because of the bank’s fault. Her boyfriend, on the other hand, said he knew nothing about Lee’s money. After the controversy, Lee fled to Malaysia. Officials recovered around 10 crores. But, they could not get the rest of the money.
