While the Popular Front of India has been accused of plotting to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is said that the central government is considering banning the organization.

Officials have said that in two phases, searches have been conducted in places related to the Popular Front organization, and evidence has been found related to anti-national activities and illegal money transactions. The Popular Front of India has been accused of staging several violent protests and inciting religious riots. These are the main reasons for the ban.

It is also said that evidence of various activities including ‘planning to attack RSS offices and planning to attack RSS officials’ has been found in two phases of the raids. The central government has been informed in this regard. The Popular Front of India has also been accused of being behind the Shakinbagh protest against the Citizenship Act and violent protests in various places including East Delhi.

Earlier, the National Security Agency and the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids on September 22 at locations linked to the Popular Front across the country. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, evidence of illegal money transactions of 120 crore rupees has been found in these raids and information has been received including illegal fund raising from foreign countries.

In the next step, 270 people belonging to the Popular Front organization were arrested in the raids held last Tuesday. The raids were conducted by the respective state police in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Tripura. The raids were conducted in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar and Nizamuddin with heavy police security. It is noteworthy that heavy police and paramilitary security arrangements were made in other states where the raids took place.

Based on the information and evidence available so far, consultations are underway to ban the Popular Front of India, officials said. However, they said that the reasons for banning any organization must be legally strong and therefore the evidence is carefully considered. A final decision to ban the Popular Front of India is expected to be taken after the conclusion of legal consultations.
