New Delhi – India’s indigenously manufactured Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) ‘Prachand’ has become a part of the Air Force.
The ceremony was held in Jodhpur, Rajasthan in the presence of Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of the Air Force Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary and others. Rajnath Singh named the helicopter ‘Prachand’. Rajnath Singh also flew in Prachanda.
It is concluded that Prachanda is increasing the defense strength of the army when Pakistan and China pose a threat on the border.
The LCH is a multi-role platform capable of launching various missiles and other weapons.
The LCH was built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). LCH is used for high surface mounted operations.
It is a 5.8 ton twin engine helicopter.
In March, the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Security Affairs headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had decided to purchase 15 indigenously manufactured helicopters at a cost of Rs 3,887 crore.
10 helicopters will be for the Air Force and five for the Army.
