“Everyone misses Dhoni because his experience is so important,” says Shardul Tagore.
India are trailing 1-0 in the first match of the 3-match ODI series at home against South Africa. In this case, the Indian team has been forced into a life-death situation to win the 2nd match tomorrow. The match will be played tomorrow at 1.30 pm in Ranchi, Jharkhand, the hometown of former captain MS Dhoni.
Speaking at the press conference, Shardul Tagore remembered former captain Dhoni. He said, “Everyone misses Dhoni because his experience is very important. Dhoni has played more than 300 ODIs, 90 Tests and many T20Is. You rarely come across such an experienced player. We should avoid criticizing bowlers based on the outcome of a match. We have to look at the pitch condition first. Must see.
Sometimes we play 350-run ODIs. All the bowlers give runs in such matches. We as a team never played a game where we completely surrendered to the opposition. Even if we lose, we will get the result by fighting. We had only a few defeats and mostly finished the series 2-1.
I am always focusing on batting. Bowlers contributing runs at 7th, 8th and 9th position in the batting is a very useful thing for the team. I want to be like this. I want Cummins and Starc to contribute in the back row in the Australian team. Getting 15, 20 runs like this will increase the margin of victory for the team. Playing in the World Cup series is every player’s dream. This time I did not get a place in the T20 World Cup Indian team. But that’s okay. My next goal is to get a place in the Indian team for the 50-over World Cup in India. That is what I am preparing for,” said Shardul Tagore.
