London: Environmental activists sprayed Aston Martin showroom

Environmental activists sprayed a showroom in London. The World Health Summit in Berlin was also disrupted.

Environmental campaigners have spray-painted a showroom of luxury sports car maker Aston Martin in central London with orange paint. The members of the group “Just Stop Oil” also blocked the street where the exhibition space is located with a sit-in on Sunday.

On Friday, two Just Stop Oil activists spilled tomato soup over one of Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” paintings at the National Gallery in London. As the museum announced, the two young women caused “minor damage to the frame” with their action, but the world-famous painting remained “undamaged”.

The protest group “Just Stop Oil” is demanding that the British government stop all new oil and gas projects immediately.

Fire alarm at World Health Summit

On Sunday, the World Health Summit in Berlin may also have been disrupted by climate activists. The summit was briefly interrupted by a fire alarm.

Scholz then went on stage and blamed climate activists for it. “Someone pressed the fire alarm. He’s not exactly supporting our discussions here,” said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in English.

“They make protests about climate and things like that and think that would improve our discussions. And I think the best way to improve discussions is not to listen and to move on,” criticized the social democratic politician. The conference then continued, and the fire alarm was switched off a short time later.

Climate activists had gathered to protest in front of the Berlin hotel where the conference is taking place. Some glued themselves to the ground in front of the hotel or to the front doors. The summit is about, among other things, combating the corona pandemic and the fight against polio.
