Thiruvananthapuram – Local Minister M. B. Rajesh paid tribute to Mr. Murugan, a sanitation worker, who cleaned the roadside gutters by hand to avoid waterlogging in front of the Secretariat. The minister said that Murugan’s is an example of energy as the government moves towards the goal of a garbage-free Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran was also with the minister. The minister also shared photos of Rajendran cleaning the drains on social media.
Minister’s note on social media:
This picture in the media is of a cleaning worker trying to remove rainwater from the road in Thiruvananthapuram. This attempt was made by hand when the mud that was closing the drain could not be removed even with the use of tools including a mud pick. When Mayor Arya asked Rajendran who was the worker who works with commitment and sincerity, he learned about Murukan. In the evening Murukan was honored at home.
Murugan is the symbol of our struggle for a garbage free and clean New Kerala. He is one of the thousands of cleaners who are selflessly serving all over Kerala. Preliminary plans to implement the cleaning of Oda with the help of advanced technology have also been initiated today. It is hoped that it will be implemented soon. Just like the fight against addiction that we are fighting together now, the fight against garbage is what we have to take up. People like Murugan give us energy in the fight for a clean New Kerala’.
