Kazakh police claim that Russian Aleksey Kotov, who previously recorded a video message in which he stated that he had been in slavery for 20 years, worked in a peasant farm of his own free will. He allegedly took away a previously written statement. According to law enforcement agencies, he recorded a video message only for the sake of returning to his homeland. At the same time, the Russian police said that the information about slavery “found objective confirmation.”

“Interrogated in the presence of the Russian consulate staff, Kotov testified that he was and worked voluntarily on the territory of the peasant farm, used a cell phone and had the opportunity to leave the farm at any time,” the Kazakh police said in a statement.

It is alleged that Mr. Kotov rejected the statement regarding the owner of the peasant farm, “having explained that he had no claim against him, the only purpose of the appeal was to return home.”

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan reported that employees of the criminal police department of the Karaganda region saw the appeal of Alexei Kotov in social networks. Then pre-trial proceedings were started under Art. 126 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan (“Unlawful deprivation of liberty”). The police found the author of the appeal and the peasant farm in the Shet region, where he worked.

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs also organized a check after the video message appeared. “According to the results of the check, the information was objectively confirmed. Thanks to the measures taken, the Russian was released, ”the Russian police said in a statement.

Alexey Kotov, a native of the village of Gore-Gryaz, Yaroslavl Region, said in a video message that he had been in slavery in Kazakhstan for 20 years. Acting Governor of the Yaroslavl Region Mikhail Evraev reported that in 1997 Mr. Kotov joined the army under a contract, serving in Kazakhstan. In 1998 he was supposed to return home, but did not come. After his release, Mr. Kotov, together with the head of the representative office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in Kazakhstan, went to Nur-Sultan.
