A 12-story building collapsed in Miami, at least one dead and eight injured

Time.news – – One dead and eight injured have so far been extracted from the rubble of the 12-storey building that collapsed overnight in Miami. The building was located on Collins Avenue in Surfside, Miami-Dade County relief sources quoted by the Miami Herald said. Dozens of rescue teams from the county and surrounding towns intervened on the spot.

Miami Beach police told the newspaper that the collapse occurred at 2 am at 8777 Collins Avenue, where the Champlain Towers, a condominium of about 100 apartments in front of the beach. The building is one block north of the Miami Beach city limits, in the Surfside resort, south of Bal Harbor, where there are numerous condos and motels.

The rear of the building has completely collapsed for reasons yet to be clarified. Reporters must keep a distance of fifty meters from the area. The building, according to the local press, housed a maximum of fifty people but the information was not confirmed by the police.
