On the night of December 31, a few hours after taking office as councilor, the elected councilor of Tuluá for the Conservative party, Eliecid Ávila, was the victim of an attack.

He was immediately transferred to a medical center, where he underwent surgery and was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he died in the early hours of Tuesday, January 2.

Ávila, who was expected to be elected president of the Council, had a long history in municipal politics and worked as a dentist; This was the second time he had become a councillor.

Dilian Francisca Toro, the new governor of Valle del Cauca, announced a security council and this will be held in the next few hours to study the situation in Tuluá.

The president also offered a reward of up to $50 million for information leading to the whereabouts of those responsible for the murder of the elected councilor of Tuluá, Eliecid Ávila. Just as her first act of government will be to lead Security Councils in the municipalities of the Valley, starting with the Metropolitan area, and in Tuluá, to establish the necessary strategies to address this type of crimes in the department.

In an interview for Blu Radio, the president pointed out that the lobbyist had already been the victim of constant threats since he began his campaign, and had suffered a first attack.

“It was said that the councilor was very close to the current mayor and they attacked his house. That was already a threat that had occurred, but he had calmed down until this great tragedy occurred,” he explained.

He also took the opportunity to refer to the security of the new mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder. “He is very well protected by the Army and Police, but his actions as president are with the community and I don’t know if it will be that easy. Today we are going to discuss how it is going to be done,” he noted.

According to preliminary reports, the men who attacked the lobbyist have already been identified. However, the authorities request support from the community to capture him.

“Given these circumstances, all capabilities have been deployed to forcefully generate an effective response that allows the actors of this crime to be brought to justice,” said Colonel Enrique Florez, commander (e) of the Valle Police.

Around the case, the hypothesis was put forward that the person who ordered the murder of Councilman Ávila would have done so from prison. Information about which the authorities investigated this morning, together with Governor Dilian Francisco Toro, in the middle of a Security Council that was held in the city of Tuluá.

“The Government must create a blockade of the prison, identify the people in Tuluá who carry out this series of criminal acts. It has already been defined that we must work with more people in the high mountain battalion and it will be increased to cover all rural and urban sectors,” he concluded.

It was also learned that the councilor had been murdered by a 17-year-old boy. The minor would have received the order from the La Inmaculada criminal gang, one of the most feared criminal structures in that area of the country, according to Colonel Edwin Urrego, director of the Dijín.

“Within the investigative activities we have managed to establish that behind these events is a 17-year-old minor, who already has an arrest warrant for another homicide, and who has been instrumentalized by the criminal structure known as the Inmaculada,” reported the colonel. Urrego.
