An earthquake of magnitude 5 struck the center of Türkiye today, Saturday.

Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said in a statement on its account on the “X” platform that “an earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale occurred at 09:31 in the state of Kahramanmaraş in the south of the country. “

She said, “The epicenter of the earthquake was the Pazardzhik region, which was the epicenter of the major earthquake that occurred on February 6 of last year, 2023, and caused the death of more than fifty thousand people.”

She explained that “the earthquake happened at a depth of 7 kilometers below the surface of the earth.”

Although the official authorities (the Minister of the Interior, the Governor of Kahramanmaraş, and the AFAD Authority) have confirmed in official statements that “there are no losses so far” as a result of the earthquake, and field survey efforts are continuing in the region.
