A 50-year-old discovers that she is mistakenly married to the mayor of her town

by time news

Warning: crazy story. A 50-year-old from Hérault told our colleagues from La Dépêche that she realized that she did not have the same husband on her marriage certificate and her birth certificate.

It all started last July when this retired married woman asked to consult her birth certificate following the loss of a loved one. It was then that she discovered with amazement that instead of her husband’s name appeared… that of the mayor of Clermont-l’Hérault, her city of residence, who had united them civilly in 2006.

For several years, she has therefore had two husbands in the eyes of the civil status, since the name of her real husband appears on her marriage certificate.

The error would come from an awkwardness of an employee of the town hall of Gonesse (Val-d’Oise), his city of birth, who when updating his birth certificate, registered the name of the mayor on the place of that of her husband.

“Grandma is a bigamist”

“This is an administrative error on our part, confirms to the Parisian the town hall of Gonesse. Registrar unfortunately made a mistake. It could have happened to anyone. »

A situation that can make you smile but which is not without consequences because in the eyes of the law, the birth certificate takes precedence over the marriage certificate. Officially, her husband is indeed the Hérault mayor.

“If anything happens to my husband then I would not have the right to anything since I am not really married to him”, she worries in the columns of the Dispatch.

For its part, the town hall of Gonesse ensures that it is at the disposal of the fifty-year-old to repair this error. “As we told her, we cannot act until she has sent us an official request to rectify an error in a civil act,” we explain at the town hall. “But as soon as we receive it it should be a matter of a few months. »

In the meantime, the retiree prefers to laugh at this misadventure. “Grandma is a bigamist, it was the subject of discussion at Christmas this year! “, she told our colleagues.
