Thrissur – A bus carrying a group of teachers and students of Iringalakuda Christ College overturned in Madhya Pradesh’s Raipura, injuring 7 people including 2 teachers and 5 students. The cleaner of the bus died on the spot.
Edward Ben Mathew (20), a final year BSc Geology student, who sustained serious head injuries, was admitted to the Katni City District Hospital and then to the Jabalpur Specialty Hospital. Injured R. Tarun, T.V. Teacher Shweta and 4 students sought treatment at Raipura Hospital and Damo Mission Hospital.
Higher Education Minister R. Bindu informed that all facilities including treatment have been made available to the accident victims. The Superintendent of Police Pana has ensured that things are done directly under the supervision of the District Magistrate of Katni where the accident took place. Both of them are seriously injured and are in hospitals with the best treatment facilities. A student with head injury has been admitted to Jabalpur Medical College Hospital which has CT scan and surgery facilities. Most of the rest had only to be given first aid.
The minister in charge of the district where the accident occurred visited the hospital and gave necessary instructions regarding the treatment. The government is doing everything. Constantly in touch. Minister Bindu said that parents and classmates should not worry at all.
The incident took place around 7.15 pm on Saturday at a place called Gua Keda in Raipura, Panna district, 310 km from Bhopal. The group consists of 4 teachers and more than 60 students of BSc Geology department. The team left Thrissur by train on the 14th and took 2 buses from Sagar to Katni to visit the mines of Jabalpur for field survey.
The initial information is that the bus overturned while trying to avoid hitting the dangerous bike on the curvy road as it was a mining area. The cleaner of the bus, which skidded off the road and fell down, died on the spot. The bus traveling in front overturned. As soon as the incident took place, the drivers of both the buses ran away.
