A collision in Canada between a truck and a bus leaves at least 15 dead and 10 injured

At least 15 people have deceased and another 10 have been injured after the collision between a semi-trailer truck and a bus in the Canadian city of Carberry, southwestern Manitoba.

The accident took place at 11:40 a.m. this Thursday, as reported by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), which has ensured that Major Crime Services is investigating what happened.

“The semi-trailer was headed to EB on -highway- MBHwy1 and the bus, carrying Dauphin seniors, was headed to SB on MBHwy5. The bus had already crossed the WB lanes of Highway 1 and was crossing the EB lanes when it was struck for the truck,” the Manitoba Mounted Police explained on their Twitter account. The Police have set up a family support center in the basement of a church in Dauphin.

The mayor of the city of Carberry, Ray Muirhead, has conveyed his support to those affected by “this tragic event”, assuring that “the City Council is in a state of shock after the serious collision”. The local authorities have also asked the residents of the area to stay away from the scene of the accident to facilitate the work of professionals. “We respectfully urge everyone to stay clear of the area to allow professionals to effectively manage the situation without unnecessary complications and distractions,” Muirhead said in a statement posted on Facebook.

The Prime Minister of CanadaJustin Trudeau has sent his “deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones” in the accident. “I can’t imagine the pain those affected are feeling, but Canadians are here for you,” Trudeau said in a Twitter post.
