A computer breakdown “being resolved” and of an unknown extent has disrupted payment by bank card in several brands in France since the beginning of the afternoon, Saturday October 21, several sources told Agence France-Presse (AFP). Messages from customers on social networks have notably reported problems in the Carrefour, Auchan, Ikea and McDonald’s brands.

“An incident limited to certain brands which rely on the same technical service provider” makes payment by card impossible, a spokesperson for the Groupement des Cartes Bancaires told AFP. “This is not a cyberattack, nor a problem with the CB payment network”, she added. The problem ” was identified “ by the service provider and he “is being resolved”.

A spokesperson for fast food chain McDonald’s confirmed “a national breakdown” which affects brands “since noon”. The “return to normal is underway”, he added. A third source, from a payment player, also told AFP that the outage was located at a service provider which processes transactions. However, no information was available on the extent of the outage and the number of brands and customers affected.
