In the documentation distributed on social networks, the two are seen having sex near the entrance to the synagogue building. “Following the documentation that was distributed, we checked the security cameras placed in the compound and saw to our astonishment that a young couple had indeed had sex in the synagogue compound after apparently jumping over the entrance gate to the courtyard which was locked and found a corner near the entrance to the building,” said the president of the Great Synagogue in Tel Aviv, Shlomo Pivko In a conversation with “Maariv”.

He announced: “A complaint has been filed with the police and I hope they find the couple who did this. It is unpleasant, we are shocked and take the incident seriously. This is a private and sacred place.” According to him, “I hope these are not Israelis, perhaps tourists who were not aware that the place is a synagogue and a holy place. But in any case, we take it seriously. The couple broke through the entrance gate which was locked and it was a private place. This is not something that is done casually and certainly not The synagogue complex. I hope the police will find the couple and they will face their punishment.”

Pivko pointed out that security cameras are placed in the compound of the Great Synagogue to monitor what is happening. “The cameras are networked in the compound, but you can always find a loophole,” he explained. On February 5th, a ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Great Synagogue at 110 Allenby Street, which is considered one of the symbols of the first Hebrew city and a part of the history of Tel Aviv for generations, is going to be held there.

The ceremony will be held in the presence of President Yitzhak Herzog, Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, Rabbi Zebadiah Cohen, during which Shuli Rand will perform poetry. Pivko also noted that the synagogue is expected to undergo an extensive renovation and “facelift” with an investment of approximately NIS 70 million.

The works will include the transformation of the parking lot next to it into a piazza and extensive renovations to the synagogue’s exterior and interior. The renovation, which will be carried out with the municipality of Tel Aviv, aims to preserve the synagogue which became one of the hallmarks of the first Hebrew city, dating back to the days of Little Tel Aviv.
