The stories of getting to know the clubs of the Talsu pensioners’ association continue, and this time “Talsu Vēstis” went to visit the creative ladies of “Fantāzijas”, who have been gathering together for 19 years. The members of the club give free rein to their imaginations, creating beautiful handicrafts in the most diverse techniques and styles.

When you visit the club, there is a lot of activity, as the ladies make Christmas tree decorations from threads. The idea for them arose when someone showed one of the participants of “Fantasia” in the hospital that it can also be expressed. Then they decided to help spring dress up a tree for the holidays.

“We went to the weavers, and they gave us scraps of thread. So now we are working and making these decorations,” says Aldona Ieviņa, who is one of the leaders of this club, and Smaida Jākobsone is the other. Why two leaders? It turns out that in the past there were two clubs with similar interests, in which the members were the same, so “Practical Latvian” remained on the sidelines and jointly chose the name that was more sonorous, more modern and with a more creative spark.

Knows how to say good words and see the talents of creative colleagues

Ladies are not afraid to say good things about each other, which undeniably leaves the best impression. We are introduced to Smaid Jākobsoni in the club as a wonderful needlewoman with fabulous works. She embroiders folk costumes and also embroiders on silk, using a magnifying glass to help her delicate work. Many dance groups are dressed in the embroidered costumes and costumes of this talented local woman. Special dresses are also embroidered for the ladies of Riga.

“I am very sorry that I did not capture my work in pictures initially. When I started doing it, it was much too late, because there are already so many works that they have already gone all over the world. They have traveled both to France, and also embroidered bottoms for the Brussels Latvian dance collective, and they have gone to other parts of the sky. I don’t cook the brunches themselves, I sew the outfits.

And life changed so that for many years now I have been doing what I learned about when I was young, when I graduated from the Secondary School of Applied Arts. I also embroidered villains for the Laucienes choir of Talsa region. I can’t remember everything I’ve done at all,” reveals S. Jākobsone, head of the club, adding that these handicrafts also helped to maintain good health. When asked if such a delicate job does not get on her nerves if something fails, she claims the exact opposite: “When I sit down to work like this, it seems to me that everything else around me has faded away.”

It is heard that Daina Murina is also surrounded by superman abilities when large-scale work needs to be done, and the club has ladies who know absolutely everything – knitting, crocheting, sewing, batik and everything else related to fine arts. He was recently in the club in special respect quillingwhen cards were made using thin sheets of paper, rolling them often in various combinations.

Active and versatile operation through the years

11 needlewomen of the “Fantāzija” club meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 11.00. And there are members who have been working here since the very beginning of the club’s foundation.

“Where do we get ideas from? Someone who has been somewhere and seen something, likewise, many opportunities are offered on the Internet. We often operate thematically. Now, for example, Easter is coming, so we are preparing something suitable for this holiday. There are already many holidays within the year,»

says Aldona Ieviņa.

The ladies work with paper, threads, and paints. They also batiked the outfits in which Usmä performed at the carnival, each dressed in its own tone. This club is also a great helper at the events of the Talsu Pensioners Association, preparing beautiful gifts for the guests. They are also made of clay, but it is said to be an expensive pleasure. “Fantazija” celebrates holidays together, also visits other clubs in other regions, relaxing and enjoying life, because not working and doing something is not to the taste of these ladies.
